Information Collected and How it is Used
During your visit to the VSDB website to browse or download information, we automatically collect and store the following information about your visit:
- The Internet domain and IP address from which you accessed our site
- The type of browser and operating system you used
- The date and time you visited this site
- The pages visited
- If you linked from another web site, the address of that web site
The information collected is used to improve the content of our web services and help us understand how people are using our pages. We analyze our website logs to continually improve the value of the materials available on our site.
The information in our web logs is not personally identifiable, and no attempt is made to link it with the individuals that browse our website.
If you send an email message to VSDB, the following information will be collected:
- The email address and contents of the message, including audio, video, and pictures you send us
We use your email address to respond appropriately. This may be to respond to you, to address issues you identify, to further improve our website, or to forward your message to another agency for appropriate action.
VSDB does not collect personal information, but is subject to the requirements for administering information systems as established in the Virginia Privacy Protection Act, Chapter 26 of Title 2.1 of the Code of Virginia. Pages that appear after you click on a link may be controlled by a different agency or entity, whose practices are not under VSDB’s control.

We maintain security standards and procedures regarding unauthorized access to ensure that this service remains available to all users, and to prevent unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. Information on individuals causing damage to the web page will be traced and released to the appropriate legal bodies (such as the Virginia State Police) to investigate suspected or alleged criminal activity.
Neither VSDB, nor any employee of the agency warrants the accuracy, reliability or timeliness of any information published by this system, nor endorses any content, viewpoints, products or services linked from this system, and shall not be held liable for any losses caused by reliance on the accuracy, reliability or timeliness of such information. Portions of such information may be incorrect or outdated. Any person or entity that relies on any information obtained from this system does so at his or her own risk.
